A manga exhibition featuring works by Hideko Mizuno and Hiroshi Hirata, two pioneers of the art form, is presented for the first time to the Greek audience at the Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas Gallery of the Hellenic American Union. The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Kyoto Seika University International Manga Research Center, the Kyoto International Manga Museum and the Embassy of Japan in Greece as part of the Comicdom Con Athens 2016 comics festival.

Hideko Mizuno, one of the first female mangaka, worked closely with “God of Manga” Osamu Tezuka. Born in 1939, she has published her first manga while still in junior high school. Her works include fantastic and romantic stories as well as comedies. In 1969, she received the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award.

Hiroshi Hirata was born in 1937. His manga that depicted the way of the samurai in a realistic and thrilling style, earned him a high reputation in Japan as well as abroad. In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award category of the Japan Cartoonists Association Awards, in 2013.

The exhibition features thirty original pages of works examining the careers of two mangaka who can rightfully be considered Manga Pioneers.
