The Hellenic American Union and Hellenic American College (HAEC) in collaboration with the Hellenic American University (Manchester, NH, USA) present a talk in English on the inspired by "Lysistrata" film, “Chi-Raq”, by the Professor of Film & Media Studies at the University of Oklahoma, author and award winning screenwriter, Andrew Horton.

Directed by the African-American filmmaker Spike Lee, "Chi-Raq" (2015) is a modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play "Lysistrata" by Aristophanes. Set in Chicago, the film is a satire that focuses on the gang violence. Dr. Andrew Horton says, “Spike Lee has made powerful fiction and documentary films about African-American life and lives in America embracing hard truths but also lively culture and humor. But this past year, he took on Aristophanes’ Lysistrata and co-wrote with Kevin Willmott a touching and hilarious film. Long live Aristophanes and strong humor with a social/political purpose even if the wars in Greece did not cease nor the killings in Chicago, but….long live humor and hope!”
