The Hellenic American Union and the Hellenic American College (HAEC), in cooperation with Hestia Publishers, co-organize an event to celebrate the launch of the new book series “Basic Historical Library” under the directorship of university professors N. E. Karapidakis and Kostas Kostis. Presented will be the first two volumes of the series, To kathestos Metaxa (1936–1941) (The Metaxas Regime [1936–1941]) by Spyros G. Ploumidis and Parataxeis kai kommata sti metapolemiki Ellada (Factions and Parties in Postwar Greece) by Sotiris Rizas.
Given the modern-day rate of research production, it is close to impossible for someone to stay entirely up-to-date on the current state in various fields of recent and modern history. As a result, both the academic community and the general public are in dire need of fresh tools, which will be providing them the opportunity to acquire a relatively quick and easy overview of a specific field.
The series Basic Historical Library aims to fill this gap in Greek bibliography and offer a series of comprehensible aids, with a more or less uniform morphology, providing up-to-date information about the progress, course and prospects in a specific field of research.
The panel of speakers features: Nikos Vatopoulos (journalist, Kathimerini newspaper), Nikos E. Karapidakis (Professor of History, Ionian University), Kostas Kostis (Professor of History, University of Athens) and Yannis Pretenteris (journalist). Panel moderator: Sotiris Metevelis (historian).
